Arsenal agree deal to beat Liverpool to Dutch star

Published 45 Comments

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Liverpool target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in Janaury, according to the French press.

A report in L’Equipe claims Arsene Wenger has secured the Holland striker in a deal worth £4million, beating his counterpart at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers, to one of the most in-form strikers in Europe.

Huntelaar was in sensational goalscoring form last season, scoring 48 goals in all competitions for his club Schalke 04, but a failure to agree a contract extension could see them lose him for a minimal fee.

The 29-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and the reported deal is likely a decision by the Bundesliga side to cash in during the January transfer window rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Liverpool are desperate to sign another striker, as star man Luis Suarez is the only senior option they have available, though he has been magnificent this season in scoring ten Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have struggled to replace the goals that left with Robin van Persie to Manchester United in the summer and inconsistencies have caused a stuttering start to their season.
