Chelsea are being linked with a New Year move for FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
Metro cites Portuguese reports when claiming that the Blues have been alerted to the 26-year-old’s availability in the January transfer window.
The paper goes on to report that Martinez is thought to favour a move to the Premier League over other European divisions, giving Chelsea an edge over their rivals for the signature – including Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbache.
Vitor Pereira is looking for an offer in the region of £20 million for the player, according to the report, with the Primeira Liga champions looking to re-invest the funds in three players.
How much control of the finances interim manager Rafa Benitez will be given is unclear at this stage, but former Jaguares star Martinez would certainly give the Spaniard more options in attack.
Fernando Torres is currently carrying the forward burden on his shoulders in west London, with Daniel Sturridge the only other senior option for Chelsea.
