Carlos Gonzalez, president of Cordoba, has joked that he tried to get Lionel Messi arrested to prevent him playing in Barcelona's Copa del Rey encounter with the Segunda División club.
Barcelona and Cordoba meet at the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel on Wednesday evening as Barca look to defend the crown they won under Pep Guardiola in May.
Messi has been in sensational form for Barcelona this season, with the Argentine superstar having already found the net on 30 occasions in all competitions.
The 25-year-old broke Gerd Muller's 40-year-old world record on Sunday afternoon when Messi scored his 85th and 86th goals of 2012 - and the Barcelona forward now has Cordoba in his sights.
Messi would be spending Wednesday in a jail cell, if Gonzalez had is way, with the Cordoba president worried about the damage the Camp Nou legend will inflict on his lowly outfit.
"I’ve tried to talk to the civil guard to get [Messi] arrested," he said, as reported by Goal.com.
Gonzalez may, though, get his wish in one sense with Tito Vilanova likely to consider resting Messi for the Copa del Rey outing, having done so in the previous round of the competition.
