Last weekend capped the end of another dramatic Campeonato Brasileiro, with Atletico Mineiro stealing the show following their 3-2 victory over Cruzeiro, to help them snatch second place from under the noses of Gremio, who could only manage a 0-0 draw with 10th placed Internacional.

Bernard gave the hosts the lead at the Estadio Raimundo Sampaio after just five minutes, before Alejandro Martinuccio equalised just before half-time after Ronaldinho missed a 38th minute penalty for Atletico.

Everton nudged Cruzeiro ahead early in the second period, prior to both sides being reduced to ten-men following a fracas between Cruzeiro's Tinga and Atletico's Leandro Donizeti.

Marcelo Oliveira's own-goal drew Atletico level on the hour mark before Ronaldinho set up Rever for a 75th minute winner. In the closing stages Anselmo Ramon was shown a second yellow card leaving Cruzeiro finish the game with nine men.

Third-placed Gremio played out a goalless draw with Internacional at Estadio Olimpico Monumental, but the match wasn't without incident after the hosts lost substitute Saimon to a late red card, adding to the dismissal of visiting goalkeeper Muriel and striker Leandro Damiao either side of half-time.

Vasco de Gama left it too late to grab a Copa Libertadores spot, but their impressive 2-1 victory away at league champions Fluminense earned them a credible fifth-placed finish, while Sao Paolo - who had already wrapped up fourth place, and with it continental football - still made time for a 3-1 home win against Corinthians.

Coritiba secured a safe mid-table finish with a comfortable 3-0 victory over basement boys Figueirense, thanks to two goals from Everton Ribeiro and one from Denis.

Nautico recorded a 1-0 victory over relegated Sport Recife, while Portuguesa secured their top-flight status after their goalless draw with Ponte Preta.

Elsewhere, Bahia finished 15th thanks to a solitary Rafael goal settled a 1-0 victory against relegated Atletico Goianiense.
