Magpies keen to clinch Aimar deal

Newcastle are hoping to persuade Argentinian playmaker Pablo Aimar his future lies on Tyneside over the next 48 hours.

It is understood the Magpies have agreed a £7million fee for the Real Zaragosa midfielder, and reports from Spain suggest his representatives are on their way to Tyneside in an attempt to thrash out a deal.

The club, as has been their policy on transfers all summer, was making no comment on Wednesday, but they appear to have nudged their way ahead of a series of other suitors. If the move for Aimar is completed, it will be a welcome boost for fans who have had to deal with a summer of speculation.
