Reports in Germany claimed to reveal the Dortmund playmaker has a £30m release fee clause in his contract.
Arsenal reportedly offered the German champions £32m for the midfielder last summer, but Dortmund rejected the bid. If the reports are true, should Arsenal return for the Germany international and make the same bid, or even £2m less, they'll get their man.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in world football, and is already a double Bundesliga champion. Gotze has played key roles in a Dortmund team that has toppled the Bayern Munich monopoly, winning back-to-back league titles.
As a reward for his performances, Gotze was handed a new bumper contract, and German newspaper Bild reports the new deal includes a buyout clause of £30m that expires at the end of the season, requiring interested parties to submit a written offer by the end of April 2013.
The report also claims Bayern Munich are prepared to rival Arsenal for the signature of Gotze, so Arsene Wenger may have to move fast to bring the youngster to the Premier League. The Gunners already have a number of German players, including Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Serge Gnabry.
