Arsenal keep tabs on Reading starlet with view to January bid

Arsenal are keeping tabs on highly-rated Reading youngster Sean Morrison, reports the Daily Star.

The 21-year-old defender only made his Premier League debut this month, but so impressive have his performances been, that he's already caught the eye of a number of managers, including England U21 boss Stuart Pearce.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have sent scouts to watch Morrison in action against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, as he considers an attempt to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

The 6ft 4in stopper was Reading's standout player on his league debut against QPR at the start of the month, and has continued to excel in five appearances for Brian McDermott's side since, including the Capital One Cup clash against Arsenal at the Madejski Stadium.

However, the Royals are in a strong position should the Gunners firm up their interest in January, having tied Morrison down to a four-year deal until 2016 last month.

Last season, the centre-back was playing on loan at Huddersfield in League One, after moving to Reading from Swindon Town in January 2011. His rapid rise to prominence is testament to his hard-working nature and undoubted potential, which could still earn him a big-money move to Arsenal in the New Year.
