Lionel Messi has revealed the three players he has voted to win the 2012 Ballon D'Or award - and also claimed he is not interested in reporters trying to pitch him against Cristiano Ronaldo in the battle for the prize.

Messi is chasing a record 4th consecutive Ballon D'Or prize, and is the hot favourite for the award alongside Ronaldo.

The Ballon D'Or is voted for by national coaches and captains as well as journalists from around the world, and speaking at an event today Messi revealed who he voted for to claim the prestigious prize.

“I voted and I will say who for - Xavi, Iniesta and Aguero,” he said.

Earlier this month Ronaldo revealed that he would vote for himself in the award if he could - not a sentiment Messi agrees with.

He said: "I would not vote for myself. I would be happy if Xavi or Iniesta won. I would never have won the Golden Boot without my teammates.”

Messi, who is chasing Gerd Muller's all-time record for most goals scored in a single calendar year, also insisted he is not interested in comparing himself to Ronaldo.

“I do not compete against him. I just try to do my best with Barca and with Argentina," he commented.

“The rivalry is something for journalists and reporters. Whenever possible you try to compare our numbers.”

The Ballon D'or shortlist will soon be cut down to a list of just three before it is handed out in January.
