Eight Premier League players have been shortlisted for the FIFPro World XI, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City all represented.

The European champions have four players on the 20-defender list, with John Terry, Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz all in contention for the prestigious honour.

All four played a part in Chelsea’s dramatic Champions League campaign last season, although Terry missed the final following his red card against Barcelona in the semi-final second leg.

Manchester United have two players in contention, with experienced duo Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra both vying for a place in the team. Their place in the final 20 comes despite United losing the Premier League title on the final day and the club being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany is rewarded for his efforts in guiding the club to the title, whilst Spurs star Gareth Bale is also on the list for his excellent form at White Hart Lane.

Barcelona players Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol are also on the list, along with Marcelo, Pepe and Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.
