Chelsea are being linked with a move for German international forward Andre Schurrle – if Daniel Sturridge is sold in the January transfer window.

The Daily Telegraph claims Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is likely to an accept an offer as high as £15 million for England international Sturridge, and will then look to replace him with the Bayer Leverkusen star in west London.

Liverpool are mooted as the side to be keen on the former Manchester City starlet, who has found first team opportunities hard at Stamford Bridge under the club’s Italian manager. Sturridge has spent much of the season on the Chelsea substitutes bench despite the stuttering form of Fernando Torres.

His exit would pave the way for Schurrle to move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, having built a reputation as one of the rising stars in the country over the past couple of seasons.

The 22-year-old began his career with Mainz before moving to the BayArena in 2011, and after making his debut for the national side in 2010, Schurrle has since earned 18-caps for his country.

Like Sturridge, Schurrle is capable of playing out wide as well as through the middle, and the Chelsea boss would value his versatility for the domestic campaign.

However, he would not be allowed to represent the Blues in Europe, after shining in the Europa League for his current club already this term.
