Atletico Madrid’s on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says he has no fear of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi ahead of their clash on Sunday.
Barcelona are top of La Liga and Atletico trail them by six points, so the clash at Camp Nou is crucial in the title race and will go some way to find out if Diego Simeone’s side have what it takes to keep with the pace with the Catalan club.
The game is being billed as the meeting between goal machines Lionel Messi and Radamel Falcao – the two top scorers in the Spanish league.
However, Messi is going to be hard to upstage and he is the man of the moment after breaking Gerd Muller’s record for goals scored in a calendar year after he hit a brace last weekend to score his 85th and 86th against Real Betis.
Opponents can be forgiven for being wary of a striker that has already scored 32 goals in all competitions this season, but the Belgian ‘keeper was in confident move ahead of the clash.
“Do I fear Messi? No, no, I am not afraid of anyone," the 20-year-old told reporters.
"He is a great player and we respect him very much, but there is no fear.”
In any other year Falcao’s 16 goals in 15 La Liga games would be extraordinary, but he is trailing Messi by seven and, on current form, will be trailing far behind him comes season’s end.
