Chelsea will target Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao to replace Ashley Cole if the England international decides to leave Stamford Bridge.
Cole is currently heading out of Chelsea unless he agrees a new deal that will extend his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season, something which looks unlikely after manager Rafa Benitez confirmed last month that both Cole and fellow veteran Frank Lampard look to be on their way out of the club.
The former Arsenal defender is reportedly attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and if he does leave, Chelsea are preparing to replace him already.
The Daily Star report that Chelsea will pursue Coentrao, who has found first team football hard to come by at Real Madrid in recent seasons.
The paper claim that while the Portuguese international is contracted at the Bernebeu until June 2017, Madrid may be willing to let him leave for around £12 million to help fund their own activity in the transfer window.
“If an interesting offer comes in, we will consider it,” the Star quote a club source as saying.
Although Chelsea appear to have a ready-made replacement for Cole in Ryan Betrand, the Star report that officials at Stamford Bridge are not yet fully convinced of the youngster's ability.
