Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen believes former Ajax teammate Christian Eriksen would be a hit at White Hart Lane if he joined Spurs, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgian international played alongside Eriksen for two years in Holland, before joining Tottenham following the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas in the summer.

And Vertonghen thinks Eriksen, who has been linked with a January move to Spurs, would be a great addition to Villas-Boas' squad.

"Technically, he's one of the best players I've played with," Vertonghen said in the Evening Standard.

"He can use his right foot and his left foot equally well and he is always fit. Since he was 17 or 18 he has played so many games for Ajax and hardly ever been injured.

"When he gains a bit more physical strength, then I think he can play in any team. I don't want to speak for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here."

A number of Europe's top teams are reportedly interested in the Danish playmaker, and Tottenham are believed to be among the clubs chasing his signature in the New Year.

Spurs jumped back into the top four with a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Swansea on Sunday, Vertonghen scoring the only goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining. Tottenham are braced for a busy Christmas period, with home matches against Stoke and Reading, and trips to Aston Villa and Sunderland to see in the New Year.
