Manchester United maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table this weekend after a comfortable 3-1 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Goals from Robin van Persie, Tom Cleverley and Wayne Rooney ensured all three points for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, with former Red Devil Frazier Campbell grabbing a consolation for the struggling Black Cats.
Manchester City had briefly closed the gap on United, following their 3-1 win away at Newcastle United in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off. Sergio Aguero, Javi Garcia and Yaya Toure scored the goals for the visitors at St James' Park, with Demba Ba's 11th strike of the season having little affect on a Magpies side that has won just one of their last eight league games.
Queens Park Rangers finally won their first match of the 2012/13 campaign after a tightly-contested 2-1 victory over Fulham in the west London derby. Adel Taarabt scored twice for Harry Redknapp's men with Mladen Petric responding for the Cottagers making for a nervy final few minutes at Loftus Road.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa ended Liverpool's recent run of form with an impressive 3-1 victory at Anfield. Christian Benteke scored twice and set up Andreas Weimann for another, with Steven Gerrard scoring a late consolation for the Reds.
Meanwhile, Merseyside rivals Everton drew 1-1 with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, with Ryan Shawcross's own goal cancelled out by Potters striker Kenwyne Jones. And, Norwich extended their unbeaten run to 10 games, after running out 2-1 winners against Wigan Athletic at Carrow Road. Anthony Pilkington and Wes Hoolahan netted for the Canaries either side of a stunning Shaun Maloney strike just after the break.
On Sunday, Tottenham moved into fourth place after picking up a 1-0 win over Swansea at White Hart Lane, thanks to a second-half strike from Jan Vertonghen, while West Brom and West Ham played out a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns.
