Liverpool have lost out on their pursuit of Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik after the teenager secured a transfer to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of goalscoring reinforcements and Milik had been mentioned as a potential acquisition for the Liverpool boss in the January transfer window.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old following his seven goals in 14 games for Gornik Zabrze this season and had considered bringing him to Anfield.

However, Bayer Leverkusen have beaten Liverpool to the signature of Milik, with the young Pole moving to Germany for a fee of just £2 million.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are surely set to continue pursuing a number of strikers as the January transfer window approaches, with Luis Suarez currently the only senior forward available to the Reds.

Summer signing Fabio Bornini is still out with a broken foot, and Liverpool will surely outline the recruitment of support for Suarez as a priority for the winter transfer window.

Suarez has scored 13 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season - nine more than next highest scorer Jonjo Shelvey.
