QPR playmaker Adel Taarabt has confirmed he wants to play for Morocco at the African Nations Cup next month.

Hoops manager Harry Redknapp last week revealed he had asked Taarabt to miss the tournament to stay and help struggling QPR in their battle to avoid relegation from the Barclays Premier League. But Taarabt, 23, is hoping he earns a recall by his country for the continental finals, which take place in South Africa from January 19 to February 2.

He has been out of favour with Morocco recently but is playing to impress national team coach Rachid Taoussi, who took charge in the summer. Taarabt told the African football blog on www.lequipe.fr: "I will do everything I can to prove to him that I deserve to be there."
