Arsenal have reportedly opened formal talks regarding the signing of Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar during the January transfer window.
Huntelaar is out of contract at the end of the season and, according to The Times, Arsenal have made a move to capture the Netherlands international for a cut-price fee next month.
Schalke are reportedly after around £6 million before they consider selling Huntelaar in the transfer window, while the 29-year-old will demand £100,000-a-week from Arsenal over a period of three years.
Huntelaar scored twice against Arsenal in the Champions League this season to ensure Schalke finished above the Gunners to top Group B and, it would appear, may now be set to swap the Veltins-Arena for the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are still without a proven goalscorer following the summer departure of captain Robin van Persie, and Huntelaar would provide Arsene Wenger with the potent option he requires.
Huntelaar scored 48 times in 48 appearances for Schalke last season and will offer Arsenal a more dangerous alternative to the likes of Olivier Giroud and Gervinho.
