Arsenal and Manchester City are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Argentine starlet Ezequiel Cirgliano, according to reports.
Metro claims both clubs are on the trail of the 20-year-old, who has drawn comparisons to Barcelona midfielder and compatriot Javier Mascherano.
Citizens boss Roberto Mancini has considered a £5 million bid for the player, according to the report, and Cirgliano would join compatriot Carlos Tevez at the Etihad Stadium if he were to join the Premier League champions.
However, Arsenal is now an ‘option’ for the player, the paper claims, with manager Arsene Wenger scouting the player ‘intensively’ over the last fortnight.
With the Frenchman chasing a holding-midfielder at the Emirates Stadium, the River Plate youngster could be an ideal fit for the Gunners’ three-man midfield.
However, the Buenos Aires-outfit want in excess of £8 million for the player, according to the report, although a part-exchange deal could be of interest for Los Millonarios. Metro claims that Arsenal full-back Andre Santos is amongst their possible targets.
Whether Manchester City would be willing to exchange a player as part of any deal for Cirgliano is up for debate, but they might have to consider that option if their north London rivals are willing to do just that in this particular transfer battle.
