Birmingham skipper Damien Johnson believes manager Alex McLeish should be given the chance to make his mark on the team even if the midlands club are relegated from the Barclays Premier League.

Johnson, the club´s longest serving player, does not feel sacking McLeish if Blues drop back into the Coca-Cola Championship is the right way forward.

City will go down if both Reading and Fulham win at Derby and Portsmouth respectively this weekend, and Johnson said: "I think chopping and changing managers isn´t the way to go forward - for any team. Alex is definitely different to Steve Bruce but they are both good managers in their own way. Alex needs to be given an opportunity to stamp his mark."
