O´Neill issues European challenge

Manager Martin O´Neill has challenged his Aston Villa players to make the most of their UEFA Cup lifeline after demolishing relegation-threatened Birmingham 5-1 at Villa Park.

Villa´s European hopes looked over after a woeful sequence of results during March left them eight points adrift of main rivals Everton, but a trio of victories have revived their chances and now success over the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday will take them above David Moyes´ side on goal difference.

"We have scored 15 goals in the last three games with Bolton, Derby and Birmingham and have put ourselves in with a chance (of Europe)," said O´Neill. "I have a lot of time for Everton. But we are going there knowing we have to win the game to give ourselves a chance and have to try and make the most of the opportunity facing us."
