UEFA consider Cardiff Euro wild card

Published Add your comment

Cardiff´s hopes of securing a place in Europe were given a boost after UEFA spokesman William Gaillard suggested they could be given a wild card next season.

Under the current rules the FA Cup finalists will not be nominated to play in the UEFA Cup because they are a Welsh club playing in an English league.

"We understand there was an agreement from the beginning when Cardiff joined the English league that if it happened they gained a European place they would not represent the English Football Association," Gaillard told Sky Sports News following the Bluebirds´ 1-0 semi-final win against Barnsley on Sunday.
