Woodgate edging nearer Spurs switch

Published Add your comment

Newcastle´s apparent failure to land Jonathan Woodgate is expected to pave the way for the defender to join Tottenham from Middlesbrough.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate confirmed this weekend the club had accepted bids from Spurs and Newcastle for the 28-year-old, but Kevin Keegan was "almost certain" the centre-back would not be his first signing after returning to St James´ Park.

Juande Ramos, Spurs´ head coach, is aware of Woodgate from La Liga after the defender´s spell at Real Madrid and he is also looking for cover for Ledley King, who is being brought back gradually from knee surgery.
