Gale hails his Hawks

Published Add your comment

Havant and Waterlooville boss Shaun Gale admitted he was proud of his non-league heroes at Liverpool and insisted: "We were never disgraced."

Gale´s Hampshire side led twice in an amazing first half at Anfield, but three goals in the second half, against a tiring Blue Square Conference South side, eventually saw Liverpool home 5-2 - with Yossi Benayoun´s hat-trick proving decisive.

Gale said: "I´m proud of my side to produce a performance like that. We were magnificent, and for the Liverpool support to give us a standing ovation at the end was fully deserved."
