Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is hoping for positive news in his pursuit of Brazilian striker Afonso Alves on Wednesday.
The Dutch federation (KNVB) have arranged a meeting between Heerenveen, who hold the player´s registration, and AZ Alkmaar, with whom Alves has signed a contract and the KNVB are expecting the clubs to settle their dispute by the end of the day´s meeting.
"We are doing our best to make the breakthrough but nothing is ever simple," Southgate told the Evening Gazette. "We want to bring someone in, but I can´t say that it will definitely happen. We just have to keep working away and see what happens."
