Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell has urged Aston Villa centre-back Gary Cahill to emulate him in making the move across the city to St Andrews.

Ridgewell made the switch from Villa to Blues in the summer in a £2million deal and now Cahill is attracting the interest of City manager Alex McLeish, who has been given permission to speak to the player by his Villa counterpart Martin O´Neill.

Ridgewell said: "I´d definitely like to see Gary join us. He´s a great footballer. He just wants to play first team football and I think he deserves that. It´s good that the gaffer is interested in him and it would be good to link up with Gary again."
