Substitute Jlloyd Samuel almost ruined Kevin Keegan´s homecoming as Bolton held Newcastle to a goalless draw on his return as manager.

The substitute could have won it at the death but for a fine save from Shay Given, with the visitors having survived a second-half assault.

Given´s intervention was the only save of any note made by either keeper in a game of few clear-cut chances.
