Swindon Town consortium leader Andrew Fitton has confirmed that the club will appoint former Motherwell boss Maurice Malpas as their new manager when a takeover deal is finalised.

Fitton revealed that Malpas impressed him greatly when interviewed for the job.

He told the club´s website: "We went out to find the best candidate and we believe we have found what we were looking for. Maurice impressed us from the start. His playing career is second to none - and he played over 600 games for Dundee United, went to two World Cups and played in a UEFA Cup final."
