The transfer window breeds panic and encourages "scurrilous" transfer activity, according to Reading manager Steve Coppell.

Coppell has called for the window to be scrapped in favour of the previous system, where deals could be struck throughout the season until the closing weeks.

"I don´t anticipate losing any of my players," Coppell told BBC Radio 5 Live. "But I´ve had a couple of what I´d call scurrilous inquiries. I cannot see the logic in a transfer window."
