Window offers respite for Jewell

New Derby boss Paul Jewell must be praying for the January transfer window, with his rock-bottom side reduced to breaking point after another string of injuries.

Jewell could well be without first-choice goalkeeper Stephen Bywater and Stephen Pearson against Blackburn with shoulder injuries, while Robert Earnshaw picked up a calf strain against Liverpool which reduced him to a passenger for the last 20 minutes. Claude Davis, Matt Oakley, Andy Todd and David Jones are also probably missing.

Jewell said: "The injuries have piled up. Pearson, Bywater, Earnshaw - we really are stretched to the limits. I wish it was January already, we need to bring people in."
