Bruce demands end to cheap gifts

Published Add your comment

Steve Bruce knew he had given himself a big task when he took over at ailing Wigan - and nothing has happened during his first two games in charge to change his mind.

After gifting Manchester City a goal at the JJB Stadium last weekend, Wigan did it again at Bolton on Sunday when Paul Scharner headed into his own net within the first three minutes of their 4-1 defeat.

"You cannot play in this league and make the kind of individual errors we are making. We made an unbelievable one last week and we have done the same again," Bruce said. "You have to give yourself a chance."
