Sunderland sub Stokes snatches winner

Published Add your comment

Sunderland substitute Anthony Stokes snatched victory at the death to deny new Derby boss Paul Jewell a point from his first game in charge following the 1-0 result.

The Irishman struck in the third minute of injury-time just as it looked as though the Rams had claimed a hard-fought point.

Kenwyne Jones had hit the post on the stroke of half-time, but Kenny Miller and Steve Howard had earlier gone close for the visitors as they gave as good as they got.
