Birmingham defender Rafael Schmitz has spelt out his desire to secure a permanent move from Lille.

The 26-year-old, who began at centre-half but has switched to left-back in recent matches, is currently on loan and has made a favourable impression since forcing his way into the side after recovering from an Achilles problem.

Schmitz said: "The opportunity arose to come to Birmingham and I have been really happy since I arrived. The football is different to what I was used to in Brazil and France, more direct and aggressive, but I am starting to find my feet now."
