Toffees smash seven

Everton surged to a crushing 7-1 victory against an out-classed Sunderland whose defensive failings were cruelly exposed.

Everton were two ahead early on through Ayegbeni Yakubu and Tim Cahill, with Steven Pienaar adding a third before Dwight Yorke pulled one back in first-half injury time.

Sunderland tried to get back into the game early in the second-half, but their dreadful defence was torn apart by further goals from Cahill, Yakubu, Andy Johnson and Leon Osman.
