Steve Bruce appears unlikely to be in charge of Wigan for their daunting clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The 46-year-old was expected to be unveiled as the Latics´ new boss on Thursday after his embarrassing non-appearance at a press conference on Wednesday, but his appointment has continued to be put on hold due to an 11th-hour issue between Bruce and his former club Birmingham.

It has been two and a half weeks since the departure of Chris Hutchings as manager and officials are keen to get Bruce on board as soon as possible.
