Sacked Preston boss Paul Simpson admitted his position at Deepdale had become untenable after Saturday´s horror show at Hull.

North End axed Simpson on Tuesday, just 16 matches into their Championship campaign, bringing an end to his 17-month reign.

The abject 3-0 surrender at the KC Stadium led Preston fans to direct sustained abuse at the former Manchester City, Derby and Wolves midfielder, which prompted the club´s board of directors to act.
