Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has vowed to bring an end to the roller-coaster ride which has been the club´s existence in recent years.

Saturday´s 4-1 home defeat by Portsmouth was greeted by boos from the stands at St James´ Park and later, speculation that plans were being made to find a replacement for boss Sam Allardyce should things not improve during the coming months.

"We have to make sure we keep taking the club forward, and it would be wrong to have a major negative reaction if we lost two games on the trot," said Mort.
