Barnsley were left dreaming of a return to the top flight after rising to fourth in the Championship with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over 10-man Blackpool.

Skipper Brian Howard converted from the penalty spot in the 21st minute after Sam Togwell advanced forward at pace, jinked past a couple of visiting defenders and saw his progress unceremoniously halted by Blackpool defender Shaun Barker.

Howard then teed up a second with a perfect free-kick for Hungarian forward Istvan Ferenczi to nod home with 20 minutes remaining.
