John Schofield has branded the decision to relieve him of his managerial duties at League Two strugglers Lincoln as "disappointing" but has been backed by former colleague John Deehan to make an immediate return to the dugout.

Schofield, who guided City to the play-offs last season, and director of football Deehan have both parted company with City after overseeing a wretched start to the season. The duo met with the club´s board on Monday and have left Sincil Bank with immediate effect.

"Leaving this way is disappointing in view of the desire and vision the club and I shared," said Schofield in a statement on the club´s website, redimps.co.uk.
