Michael Owen stands a good chance of being fit for England´s vital Euro 2008 double-header next month according to Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce - and the 27-year-old could even make next weekend´s with Everton.

Initial predictions after he was diagnosed with a weakness in his stomach, which could have led to a hernia, and torn abductor muscle were that he might miss six weeks, but Allardyce says he could be back within days after undergoing stomach surgery in Munich at the clinic of top specialist Ulrike Muschaweck.

"The second operation on the weaker side of his stomach (has been) very successful," he said. "Only a few days in terms of recovery we´re talking now, and then there´s the abductor to think about with the tear. But really good news, not like all the speculation that we are neglecting him - that was rather distasteful as far as I was concerned."
