FA chiefs are to contact both Middlesbrough and Newcastle over chants aimed at Egyptian striker Mido during Sunday´s Tees-Tyne derby.

The 24-year-old was targeted by the travelling supporters, whose abuse included Islamophobic chants during the 2-2 draw at the Riverside Stadium.

Mido was booked for the way he celebrated his 28th-minute goal in front of the Newcastle fans, and manager Gareth Southgate later questioned why thousands of people were allowed to verbally attack one man, while he could not react.
