Owen fails to inspire Newcastle

Michael Owen´s latest comeback could not inspire his Newcastle side to mark Sam Allardyce´s home debut with three points after a gruelling goalless battle with Aston Villa.

Owen appeared as a 63rd-minute substitute but played little part as the home side laboured up front and had to thank keeper Steve Harper for saving them a point.

Harper saved Gabriel Agbonlahor´s first-half header and tipped a Nigel Reo-Coker effort around the post. David Rozehnal had the home side´s best chance but his volley was saved by Scott Carson.
