Christmas is just around the corner and the festivities that come with it are just a warm up to what the modern football fan has an addiction to like nothing else – the January transfer window.
With the window fast approaching, speculation over the futures of many players will run through social media outlets like wildfire and there have been a number being linked with rivals in the Premier League.
Stars moving from less glamorous clubs to the Premier League’s big boys is nothing unusual, but when a player decides to switch to one of his club’s rivals it is usually met with surprise and not a little bad feeling from supporters.
Examples of this would be Fernando Torres making the £50million trip from Liverpool to Chelsea or Robin van Persie’s £24million defection from Arsenal to Manchester United.
This January is unlikely to pass without transfers of this ilk either being reported or actually happening, especially when some clubs are struggling to maintain any consistency – we’re looking at you, Arsenal and Chelsea.
GMF has seen a number of deals reported in lead up to January that could bring about similar anger to that experienced with the Van Persie and Torres deals.
We have decided to pick out the choicest deals that could see some of the Premier League’s side swooping into one another’s camps to snatch up certain stars.
Here they are…
Frank Lampard – Chelsea to Arsenal
The Gunners have been criticised for lacking experience and grit in the midfield, while Lampard is rumoured to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge after not being offered a new deal. The England international was then linked with the trip across London.
Luis Suarez – Liverpool to Manchester City
Where would Brendan Rodgers be without Luis Suarez? Possibly not manager of Liverpool as he has been crucial to their season being as good as mediocre so far. The Anfield boss would probably not have been best please, then, when the Premier League champions were reported to be ready to buy him.
Nani – Manchester United to Arsenal
The Portuguese winger has shown so much promise at Old Trafford, but he appears to have fallen out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson in recent times, with playing time becoming a little harder to come by. This sparked talk of a big-money Janaury move to the Gunners.
Sandro - Tottenham to Manchester United
The Brazilian is growing into a top class defensive midfielder and his performances have improved vastly over the past season or so. So that obviously means he is ripe to be plucked from the Spurs tree by Ferguson at Old Trafford.
Theo Walcott – Arsenal to Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, etc.
Arsene Wenger faces losing another star for a knockdown price after the England winger was allowed to run his contract down to the final six months. This means a juicy bosman switch in the summer or a cut-price deal in January as the Gunners fear losing him for nothing. Either way, he is reportedly interesting a number of top clubs.
Which of these transfers do you think is the most likely? Do you want your club to sign any of these stars? Join in the debate and leave a comment below to let us know…
