Daniel Sturridge's proposed January transfer from Chelsea to Liverpool is reportedly in doubt with problems encountered regarding fees paid to the player's representatives.

Liverpool are reported to have agreed a £12 million deal for Sturridge but, according to the Daily Mail, a wrangle over agents fees has seen the switch from Chelsea hit a stumbling block.

Sturridge was expected to have his Liverpool medical on Wednesday, but this did not take place as further discussions took place between the 23-year-old's advisors and Chelsea over the terms of his departure.

Only Manchester City have paid more in agents fees than Chelsea since 2008-09, while Liverpool are the third highest spenders in the Premier League club, and each of the latter two appear keen to stamp down on such expenditure.

Liverpool, though, reportedly remain confident that the issues with Sturridge can be resolved and the England international will move to Anfield in the early stages of the transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of goalscoring reinforcements to relieve the burden from Luis Suarez, and Sturridge could be the main to provide extra firepower for the Reds.
