Manchester United are facing a fight to keep hold of striker Javier Hernandez as La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing him.

According to The Express, the Catalan club have singled out the Old Trafford striker as a possible replacement for the out-of-favour David Villa.

Hernandez has found first team opportunities limited under boss Sir Alex Ferguson this season and he is currently behind Wayne Rooney and summer signing Robin van Persie in the pecking order.

The report claims Barcelona are willing to spend as much as £15million in the January transfer window to land the 24-year-old, known as ‘Chicharito’, which could be a tempting offer for the Red Devils.

Hernandez joined Manchester United in 2010 from Guadalajara in a deal worth £6million.

His first year at Old Trafford was a resounding success and he formed a formidable partnership with Rooney to take United to the Premier League title in the 2010-11 season.

Hernandez has struggled to produce that form consistently in the following two season, reducing him to the role of super sub much of the time.
