A host of Premier League sides are lining up to make a move for Lyon wide man Michel Bastos, according to Sky Sports.
The Brazilian international has established himself as one of Lyon’s top performers since joining the club in 2009, but could be sold after club chairman Jean-Michel Aulas admitted players will have to be sold in order to balance the books.
Aulus also admitted Bastos could be one of the first out of the door in order to lower the Ligue 1 side’s wage bill.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle have been alerted to the availability of the 29-year-old and could launch a bid for his services in the new year.
The website reports that Bastos’ versatility makes him an attractive prospect to the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle. The former Lille player is capable of playing on the wing as well as at full-back.
Newcastle in particular have been rocked by injury problems that have threatened to ruin thier season, and may move to bring in reinforcements in Janaury.
Lyon have a history of being forced to sell their best players after a host of departures over the summer.
Hugo Lloris was sold by Lyon to Spurs in the summer for around £12 million, with the Frenchman’s former club being drawn against his current employers in the Europa League yesterday.
