Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has re-opened his feud with current boss Rafa Benitez after defeat in the FIFA Club World Cup last weekend.

The ex-Liverpool boss has been linked with the position at Real Madrid amidst speculation that ‘the special one’ could leave his post at the end of the season.

Indeed, Benitez was happy to comment on the speculation without giving too much away.

"I know things, but I am not going to say anything about Real Madrid because I don't think I should," he’s quoted as saying by SkySports.

Those remarks did not sit well with the current Santiago Bernabeu chief however, and Mourinho hit back at his rival by suggesting his focus might not have been on the job during the clash against Corinthians in Japan.

"As a Chelsea fan, all I can say is that I hope he wasn't thinking about Real Madrid during the Corinthians game," the ex-Porto boss responded, according to SkySports.

Madrid currently sit 13 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, and face a tricky looking last 16 tie in the Champions League after being drawn against Premier League giants Manchester United.

But, whilst Mourinho knows the pressure is on in the capital, he unsurprisingly remains confident in his ability to turn things around.

"I did not realise that tomorrow I reach 400 games managing in the top flight until I was told, but I know that in that time I have lost fewer than 40 games. I have never been found wanting in terms of motivation. The players have to find that motivation and improve,” he added.

"We have to improve in all aspects of the play. We are not happy with our numbers from these first months of the season."

Chelsea get back to action in the English top flight on Sunday, hosting Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge as they look to get back in tough with the Manchester clubs at the top of the table.
