Manchester United are ready to end speculation over Rio Ferdinand’s future and offer him a new deal to stay on at Old Trafford for another year.

According to the Daily Star, Sir Alex Ferguson wants the former England captain to remain with the Red Devils but Ferdinand is still mulling over his options for the future.

Recent media reports had suggested Ferdinand was ready to end his time with United, as were teammates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

The Star also claims teams from China, the Middle East and America are ready to come in with lucrative offers in a bid to lure Ferdinand away from the Premier League, but the Manchester United boss still feels the 34-year-old has a lot to offer.

Ferdinand has finally shrugged off serious fitness issued that had threatened his future 18 months ago or so, with him unable to play too many games too close together.

That is no longer a problem and he has featured in the majority of United’s league games this season.

Ferdinand moved to Old Trafford from Leeds United in 2002 for £30million, which was a record fee for a defender.
