Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target Demba Ba has turned down the offer of an £80,000-a-week contract – from Premier League strugglers QPR.
The Newcastle United star’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in the lead up to the Janaury transfer window, with both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers being creditied with an interest in him, but the Daily Mail claims Harry Redknapp tried to lure him to Loftus Road with a lucrative offer.
Ba turned it down, however, and the offer of Champions League football at the Gunners could be a bigger draw for the 27-year-old.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew recently admitted the Senegal international could easily leave in the winter window as a £7.5million release clause in his contract appears to be a bargain price for a player who has a proven goalscoring track record.
Arsenal have struggled to score freely so far this season and Ba could provide them with some extra firepower as they look to get their season back on track after a troublesome start.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are very short in the striking department and have only Luis Suarez as a senior centre-forward and signing Ba would go some way to lightening the goalscoring load on the Uruguayan.
Ba has already scored 11 times in the league, but it hasn’t been enough to stop the Toon losing three of their last four games.
