Arsenal are being linked with a January move for Manchester United transfer target Simon Mignolet.
The Sunderland stopper has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Martin O’Neill wants £10 million for the player.
And now, Metro claims that Arsenal are ‘weighing up’ a New Year bid for the player, who is also on the Chelsea transfer radar.
The Gunners have been linked with a number of keepers recently, with Pepe Reina, Ali Al-Habsi and Asmir Begovic all said to be amongst the Emirates Stadium targets.
Argentine starlet Damien Martinez is set to graduate from the reserves to the first team next season, but it’s the battle for the Arsenal No.1 spot which would be of interest to a new addition in north London.
It’s the battle for the No.1 spot at Manchester United which also remains of interest, with Sir Alex Ferguson continuing to rotate David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard.
And, The Daily Express claims the Red Devils chief set his sights on Mignolet as a potential long-term successor for Edwin Van der Sar, who retired in the summer of 2011.
Manchester United have conceded 24 goals already this season, and will be hoping that Swansea don’t add to that tally when they travel to Wales tomorrow (Sunday).
Chelsea, meanwhile, are surprisingly being linked with a goalkeeper addition in west London.
French stopper Mickael Landreau is currently a free agent, and The Daily Star reported yesterday that his relationship with Blues goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon could lead to a short-term switch.
Any move for Mignolet would be much more permanent, although Petr Cech will hope to get back to his best at Chelsea and prove himself to interim boss Rafa Benitez.
