Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid and re-join Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old left Manchester United for Real Madrid in a world record £80 million deal in 2009 but now, according to The Sun, has told friends that he wants to 'come home'.

Although Ronaldo wants to quit the Santigao Bernabeu for Old Trafford, the Portugal captain reportedly fears that a transfer could prove to be impossible due to the vast fee it would take to secure his signature.

Ronaldo has a €1 billion buyout clause written into his deal with Real Madrid and, if Los Blancos are unwilling to sell, Manchester United would have to bid that amount to release the Portuguese from his contract.

Real Madrid would, however, reportedly consider parting with Ronaldo for €150 million, although Manchester United may struggle to sanction such a sizeable offer with the club's owners.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he would love to have Ronaldo back at Manchester United in the future, but it is unclear if the Red Devils have any serious interest in the Real Madrid star.

Ronaldo will face his former club for the first time since his departure when Real Madrid meet Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place in the Spanish capital in February.
